Roman Roads

Good morning senator I look forward to guiding you through the roads. Senator lets start with what materials we used on the road. First we dug a very straight ditch. Straight is important because it makes the trip go faster. We filled the ditch with many different layers of materials. We place sand on the bottom of the ditch. Gravel is then packed into the sand. This makes a steady base. On top of this we put rocks to pave the road. We build the roads at a slant so the water would run off. Now I have showed you the materials we used on the road let me show you who builds the roads. The soldiers are in chage of building the road. They plan the road and do a lot of the work. Many times slaves are used as well. Slaves are people that come from barbaric lands. Hope you like Rome senator.
